Charlotte, NC – Learn to Ride, a Charlotte-based nonprofit dedicated to teaching kids and adults how to ride bicycles, announces its 2025 schedule of events. Now in its 12th year, the organization continues its mission to grow Charlotte’s cycling community one new rider at a time.
The 2025 Learn to Ride events will take place across Charlotte and Mecklenburg County at the following locations:
March 29: Lincoln Heights Montessori School
May 31: Knights View Recreation Center
September 6: Arbor Glen Outreach Center
November 15: Berewick Recreation Center
Learn to Ride events are free and open to participants of all ages. Using the proven “balance bike” method, Learn to Ride provides a supportive environment for first-time riders and those looking to improve their skills. Bikes and helmets are available for loan during the events.
“Learn to Ride turns twelve this year!” said Dick Winters, co-founder of Learn to Ride. “That means a first grader who came to one of our first events graduates from high school this year—and has been able to enjoy bicycling that long, too!”
In partnership with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, Learn to Ride events have been able to rotate to various locations, making them accessible around the County. The award-winning program has become a cornerstone of Mecklenburg County’s efforts to promote health and wellness through outdoor recreation.
Gabe Hackney, CPRP, Recreation Manager for Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation’s Eastway Recreation Center, emphasized the importance of these events:
“This is the perfect example of how we connect our residents to enhancing their health and wellness, getting outdoors, and having fun all at the same time. Seeing kids build their confidence and learn a new life skill that will help them experience things around them in a different way is an awesome feeling.”
Since its inception in partnership with Bicycle Sport, well-run media + marketing, and Trips for Kids Charlotte; Learn to Ride has helped countless individuals gain confidence on two wheels. The program continues to be a valuable resource for families seeking guidance in teaching their children how to ride, or for adults learning for the first time.
